Google panda is a content based algorithm which was first rolled out on Feb 2011 and the latest update was Panda 4.1 which was rolled out on Sept 25, 2014.The Panda algorithm is aimed to lower the rankings of “poor quality”, “thin” and “duplicate” content sites. The purpose of the panda algorithm was to show the top quality sites in the search results by eliminating the spam contents from the SERP’s. It affects the ranking of the whole website or a particular section on a website. This algorithm is also known as “farmer” algorithm.
Google’s Penguin update is purely based on “links” which was first released on April 2012.The latest Penguin update took place on 17 Oct 2014. Google’s Penguin update generally affects the website at the page level or keyword level. This algorithm is mainly designed to fight against spam links and sites that use black hat SEO tricks like paid links, blog rolls, and reciprocal links. Google strongly regrets buying links to improve the search presence in the SERPs.
